The setting is a Highland shooting lodge, whose occupants are depicted, as in much of Neil Gunn’s writing, in stark contrast to the local people. A violent death is foreseen. But who is it that is going to die? And how and when? The drama is played out against a background of strange mists and elemental landscape such as Gunn knew and describes so well.
