Tan Renga in Japanese can be translated as short linked verse and is indeed the shortest possible Renga consisting of one three line stanza added to a two line stanza. At first glance a Tan Ranga could be confused with a Tanka, which also contains the same number of syllables and uses the same poetic devices. Everything is the same except in a Tan Renga the two parts are always written by two persons, one responding to the words of the other.
