Abridged versions of two of Arthur Ransome's classic adventure stories, "Coot Club" and "The Big Six", are combined to make one complete story. A chance encounter on a train, on their way to a sailing holiday on the Norfolk Broads, introduces Dick and Dorothea to the members of the Coot Club.
