This autobiography is indeed simply the life story of an obscure Glaswegian, neither famous nor infamous, but it covers three-quarters of a century, not wihout incident (or accident), and much that was coincidental, such as, the meeting with two fellow-keelies in Baku in the south of Russia in 1931. The author took part in the Battle of the Somme and while employed on Tyneside in 1931 crossed Europe by train via Berlin, Warsaw and Moscow.
